Steve Risner has over thirty-nine plus years of experience in law enforcement & corrections, fulfilling such roles as: State Correctional Officer, State Probation and Parole Agent, Training Mentor & Advisor for Afghan National Police & Prison systems in Afghanistan, Police Officer, K-9 Officer, Deputy Sheriff and Warden of a correctional facility for a Sheriff's Department. He is a current Instructor/Trainer in the Use of Force, and state certified Firearms Instructor.
In 1993, Steve Risner attended a PPCT Defensive Tactics Instructor Course in Baton Rouge, LA at the Louisiana State Police Academy. It was then that Steve started their career in teaching the Use of Force skills to law enforcement & correctional officers. Prior to attending the Instructor class with LSP, Steve had attended an NRA Police Combat Firearms Instructor Course and a Louisiana Peace Officer Standard & Training (POST) Firearm instructor Course.
After 1993, Steve traveled over the state of Louisiana certifying and re-certifying peace officers in Use of Force.
In 1996, Steve attended and completed a PPCT Defensive Tactics Instructor Trainer Course in Illinois. At that time, Steve was one out of only 122 in the world of Instructor Trainers for the then and now worlds largest Use of Force company, PPCT Management Systems, Inc., which later formed into Human Factor Research Group & Warrior Science Group. Butch later obtained his Instructor Trainer status with this same world wide known Use of Force company.
In 1999, Steve, saw a need to not only pass Use of Force skills on to Peace Officers, but also to the civilian arena. It was then that he started conducting Carrying Concealed Handguns,(CCH) Classes for the public in Springhill, LA. Up until 2009, Steve had conducted numerous CCH classes and Women's Safety Courses to the public free of charge as they had no trouble finding a Sheriff's Office or Police Dept. to sponsor the classes. However, with a change in the economy, finding a sponsor was getting difficult or none could be found.
In 2010, Steve held the first CCH Class in Homer, LA, having a registration fee of only ten dollars. After discovering that ten dollars would not cover the expenses of holding these classes, the fee for the course was raised to thirty dollars for several more classes conducted in Homer and Springhill, LA. After one of the last classes conducted in 2010, Steve began considering forming a Use of Force Company that would provide excellent and quality training for law enforcement / correctional officers and for the public at at a affordable price for the agency or the civilian. Golden Eagle Training & Safety,(GETS), was thus formed in 2011.
With 18 plus years of conducting training, Steve is committed to offering numerous Use of Force or Self Defense Courses and to continue to provide valuable information and research to clients. Having been in numerous survival and critical incidents throughout his years of service, life-saving skills and techniques are offered to everyone.
