Two Homer Businesses Named To “Top 100” For 3rd Year
BY SUSAN T. HERRING, Editor, The Guardian-Journal
For
the third consecutive year, two Homer businesses have been named as one of the
“Top 100” privately owned companies in the area. This year’s ranking is based
on 2001 revenue, not profit figures. Emerson Oil Company was ranked No. 81 and
Louisiana Wood Moulding No. 91. In 2000, Emerson was ranked 82 and Wood
Moulding was 77 and in 2001, Emerson was 79 and Wood Moulding was 76. What
makes the ranking so impressive is the Top 100 businesses were selected from
some 20,000 businesses in six Northwest Louisiana parishes and three Texas
counties--Caddo, Bossier, Webster, Claiborne, DeSoto, and Red River Parish and
Marion, Harrison, and Panola County.

Office Of Family Support Seeking Donations For School Supplies
Sharon
Chandler, Social Services Analyst Supervisor with the Claiborne Parish Office
of Family Support, said many people in Claiborne Parish may be unaware of the
difficult struggle many families on assistance are faced with. Purchasing
school supplies for children can be a financial burden for many homes,
especially those who are working to get off assistance and barely make enough
money to pay the bills. There just is not enough money to purchase uniforms and
school supplies for several children, pay the rent and utility bills, and buy groceries.
Actual school supplies are preferred, but donations can be mailed to P.O. Box
210, Homer to the attention of Sharon Chandler, but should be made payable to
the store where the supplies will be purchased. For more information on the
First Annual Write On! Project, contact Chandler at 318-927-3518, extension 33.
Chandler said, “For a minimal donation of your time and school supplies, you
are making an investment in the future of Claiborne Parish. As your community
partner, our vision is to improve families for a stronger Louisiana. Please
join us!”
