Animal Control Officer Reprimanded For Shooting Dogs

   - Dogs’ Owner Wanted Dog Catcher Fired

Scott and Rebecca Lowery attended the meeting of the Homer Town Council on Monday, June 3, demanding the Town fire the animal control officer (dog catcher). On Wednesday, May 29, Linsey E. Jones, Animal Control Officer for the Town of Homer shot two dogs belonging to the Lowerys near their residence on Beverly Drive. In a letter addressed to the Council, Police Chief Rodney Hollenshead wrote “Jones stated that he could not catch the dogs and he felt that he had to shoot them.” Both dogs survived their wounds after being treated by a local veterinarian.

 

International Vice-President, Guest Of Kisatchie Jaycees

   - Jaycees Get Top Designation Eighth Year In A Row

The Kisatchie Jaycees of David Wade Correctional Center hosted a very special guest on April 9. Junior Chamber International Vice-President John MacLeod was brought by Louisiana Jaycees President Belinda Brown to speak to the #1 institutional Jaycee chapter in the nation. MacLeod, who resides in Scotland, is the International Jaycees V.P. over the United States and the West Indies. Kisatchie Jaycees President Andrew Hundley opened the meeting by recognizing the distinguished guests. Brown took the floor and praised Kisatchie for its efforts. “Kisatchie is responsible for motivating other institutional and free world chapters to be more active,” Brown remarked. “I commend all of you for setting the standards for all to follow.” She then officially announced the Kisatchie Jaycees had won their 8th consecutive Clarence H. Howard award from the United States Jaycees.

 

Claiborne Boys & Girls Club Seeks Help From Community

Sabrina Smith, executive director for the Claiborne Boys & Girls Club told those who attended the First Annual Business Breakfast on Friday, May 17 there must be a concentrated effort by the community to provide meaningful programs for the youth in our communities. She said, “Now more than ever we need to be there for our youth. Each day is a challenge to them and they face things that some of us adults have never faced. We as Christians, educators, leaders, and parents have an awesome responsibility and ...no one organization can do it alone.”

 

Fireworks And Boat Parade Set For Thursday, July 4th

  - Donations Still Needed For This Patriotic Celebration On Lake Claiborne

The Annual Fireworks and Boat Parade on Lake Claiborne will be held this year on Thursday, July 4 beginning with the Boat Parade at 5 PM followed by the Fireworks Show at 9 PM. The Fireworks display can be viewed from the Lake Claiborne dam.

 

 

New Construction Project Underway In St. John Area

A new subdivision is presently under construction in the St. John Community. “Countrywood Estates” has the potential for 39 homes to be built within the next five years. The subdivision will include three private ponds and a small lake. Two have already been completed and are stocked with bream and catfish.

An important meeting explaining the Renewal Community Tax Credit will be held Thursday, June 13 at 5:15 PM at Homer City Hall. Buck Trussell, Vice-President of the Coordinating and Development Corporation; Joe Taylor representing the Louisiana Department of Economic Development; and George McGovern, CPA, will be present to explain this new program to business owners and employees, according to Mac Brakefield with the Homer-Claiborne Chamber of Commerce. All businesses in Claiborne Parish are eligible for this tax-incentive program. Please mark your calendar and make every effort to attend and learn how much your business can save over the next eight years.

Summer Arts Camp For Kids Will Be In Homer July 22-26

The North Central Louisiana Arts Council will hold Summer Arts Camp for Kids at Homer City Hall July 22-26. The popular weeklong arts program exposes children to the arts and nurtures their creativity in a supportive, pressure-free environment. The Claiborne Parish Police Jury will meet at 10 AM Wednesday, June 5 for work session and Thursday, June 6 for their regular meeting.

The Finance Committee of the Claiborne Parish School Board will meet Thursday, June 6 at 5 PM, followed by the work session at 6 PM and regular meeting at 7 PM.

The Junction City, Louisiana Town Council will meet Thursday, June 13 at 6 PM.

The Junction City School Board will meet Tuesday, June 11 at 7 PM at the Junction City Elementary library.

The Haynesville Town Council will meet Thursday, June 20 at 6 PM in the Council Chambers.
