Junction City Band Student Makes All-State Band In Arkansas

Lacey Willet, a senior band member at Junction City High School, has been named to the Arkansas All-State Band. In January, Lacey tried out for all region band and earned First Chair rating out of 65 clarinet players who tried out from South Arkansas schools. That qualified her to try out for the All-State Band which she did on February 3. Competing were students from all over Arkansas, from all size schools, small and large. Lacey is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Max Willett of Summerfield Highway.

Four Dragon Band Members Chosen For Four States Honor Band

Four Junction City Dragon Band members were chosen to participate in the Four States Honor Band Clinic held January 11-13 in Texarkana, Texas. The band members were chosen on their past performances in Region Band and their local band programs. The Junction City students who were chosen were Shameka Gibson--bass clarinet, Rachel Helm--clarinet, Amber Thurlkill--clarinet, and Lacey Willett--clarinet.

Caledonia Baptist Church Singing To Celebrate 14th Anniversary -
Caledonia Baptist Church will celebrate the 14th Anniversary of their monthly singing on Saturday evening, February 10, at 7 PM. The Singing began in January 1987 and, to this day, has continued to be a regular event on the second Saturday of each month.

Sr. District Basketball Tournament Feb. 12-17 -
The Senior District Basketball Tournament will be held February 12 - 17 in Norphlet. The Dragons will play the winner of the Norphlet-West Side game on Tuesday, February 13. Check with the school for game time.

Claiborne Parish Science Fair Set For Friday, February 23 -
Claiborne Parish Schools will host the annual Claiborne Parish Science Fair on Friday, Februuary 23 at the Fiar Building in Haynesville. There will be approximately 200 entries from students in grades K-12 who will be judged throughout the day. An awards ceremoney will be held for the winners at 5 PM.

Am I Having A Heart Attack? -
"Am I Having A Heart Attack?" is the title of the Homer Memorial Hospital seminar to be held 4 PM, Tuesday, February 13 in the hospital conference room. Leading the discussion will be Anthony Smith of AMR Ambulance service. The purpose is to inform the public of actions they can perform to help themselves and their loved ones in the event of a heart attack.

March Events At Lake Claiborne Park -
March 3 - Jeb Johnson's Great Escapades, 7 PM. Visitors can learn more about the life of a local legend who lived in Claiborne Parish and fought in the Civil War. March 10 - Woodpecker Wonders, 7 PM. Visitors are invited to a program that discusses different types of woodpeckers, their niche in nature, their biology and their nesting habits.
March 24 - Storytelling, 7-8 PM, Visitors are invited to hear stories about Native Americans, animals and plants.
March 31 - Miniature Wonders Nature Walk, 9:30 - 10:30 AM. Join th park naturalist for a nature hike to discover small plant and insect life often overlooked in the natural world.

Junction City students will get out of school at 1:50 PM all next week, February 12-16 to allow for staff development for teachers. Teachers will stay until 3:30 PM.
