Minden, Palestine-Wheatley Take Top Spots At 70th Annual Dual State Tournament
The Minden High School boys team and the Palestine-Wheatley girls team took first place in Junction City's 70th Annual Dual State Tournament January 20-27. The tournament featured twenty girls' and twenty boys' teams from high schools in Louisiana and Arkansas. In the boys' championship game, Minden edged Stephens 64 to 62. Emerson boys took third by defeating Summerfield 60 to 51 in the consolation game. In the final girl's game, Strong was defeated 62 to 45 by champion Palestine-Wheatley. Third place honors went to McNeil girls who defeated Union 52 to 45.

Boys' Coach Joe Hammett said he and Girls' Coach Brian Schuler didn't have much time to rest following the week-long tournament, with three home games scheduled this week--Mt. Holly on Tuesday, West Side at 5:30 PM on Thursday, February 1, and Strong at 5:30 on Friday, February 2. Both Senior teams travel to West Side Tuesday, February 6. Games start at 6:30 PM. Junction City girls and boys play Huttig here Friday, February 9. Games start at 6 PM.

  • Claiborne One Site Now Features Area Image Archive - Archived images from the recent Homer Christmas Festival and ParadeHomer Christmas 2000 are now online. Upcoming image archives to include: Junction City High School Home-Coming Parade, Haynesville Butterfly Festival 2000, Homer Christmas Festival 1999, Claiborne Parish Scenery, Lake Claiborne State Park and more.   • Cabins Available For Rent On Lake Claiborne January 3 - Ten new vacation cabins will be available for overnight guests at Lake Claiborne State Park beginning Wednesday, January 3. The Office of State Parks will begin taking reservations for the cabins Monday, Oct. 9 at 1-877-CAMP-N-LA central reservation line (or 1-877-226-7652).
     
  • The YWCA of El Dorado invites you to become a part of their "Moms and Mentors Program" - The program matches caring volunteer women with teen women who are pregnant for the first time, or who are parenting their first child. Through a mentoring relationship, the message is offered that there is someone available, not to judge, but to support and encourage.
