Millennium 2000--A Year Of Weather Extremes
- Claiborne Iced For Third Time, Snows New Year's Eve
By Susan T. Herring,  Editor, The Guardian-Journal

Claiborne Parish was iced for the third time in 2000, when a winter storm moved through the area on Christmas Day. The first storm was January, then just two weeks ago, the northern part of the parish was hit hard. Joey White, spokesperson for Claiborne Electric, said this latest ice storm was somewhat unpredicted, as meteorologists from Channel 12 and 3 thought this area would miss the bulk of the freezing rain. Then the storm shifted unexpectedly further south, covering most of Claiborne Electric's service area in North Louisiana. At the height of the storm, 11,000 were without power.
