Water superintendent Hosea Monroe and wastewater plant supervisor Vivian Moffett informed Mayor David Aubrey and the Homer Town Council at a Special Called Meeting on June 14 the contractor had installed the new pump at the Mayfield water well. Once the results of the water samples taken by the health inspector are received, probably Friday, the well will be placed back online. The Mayfield Well pumps 780 gallons per minute. The newest well, the Dutchtown Well, had been pumping 460 gpm, but is down to 260 gpm. Moffett suggested they have some tests run to determine the problem. It could be a hole in the pipe or problems with the level of the Sparta Aquifer.

On May 26, if you happened to have been driving on Hwy. 79 between Homer and Minden, you may have noticed some confederate flags along the highway. They were there to mark the celebration and chartering ceremony of the Claiborne Invincibles Camp #797 of Homer. The Homer “Sons of Confederate Veterans” (SCV) Camp #797 was first chartered in 1923. On the night of May 25, 2000, compatriots from Homer and nearby areas met to reactivate the camp and decided to change the name to the “Claiborne Invincibles” to more overtly honor the brave men who did their duty, since they felt their cause and legacy was indeed invincible.

Operation Starting Line To Hold Local Christian Rally Tuesday, June 26

The crime problem in our country has reached critical proportions. Efforts to rehabilitate criminals have mostly failed because prisons do not address the real problem--changing the hearts of those who commit crimes. In Louisiana where more people are in prisons per capita than any other state in the country, the problem is even worse. Operation Starting Line is trying to help. If you are a Christian looking for a way to serve the Lord in a very special way, then you should attend the OSL Volunteer Rally on Tuesday, June 26 from 7:00-8:30 PM at the Immanuel Word Center. For more information, contact the OSL office at 1-877-987-1552 or the Immanuel Word Center at 927-9080.

Synco Motors Cadillac Giveaway Is A Scam
The Claiborne Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a bogus telephone scam. Last week, six individuals called Synco Motor Company in Homer regarding a telephone call they had received from a female notifying them they had won a Cadillac. To receive their prize, the supposed winners were asked to provide their date of birth and Social Security number. Chief Deputy Chuck Talley said Synco Motors is not running a giveaway promotion at this time, nor are any other car dealerships in the area. Talley said merchants who do run promotions from a variety of retail stores do not ask for this type information over the telephone. Generally, winners are notified by mail, then receive a follow-up phone call. Personal information would only be requested in person. Persons should never give information, such as full name, date of birth, Social Security card, or credit card information, over the telephone. Anyone receiving such a call should notify the Sheriff’s Office at 927-2011.
