Judge Harmon Drew Shares "Truisms" At Chamber's Mardi Gras Banquet

The Homer city hall had a little "New Orleans" flavor at the Chamber of Commerce Banquet "Mardi Gras Madness 2001. Monday night, January 29, decked in its grandiose green, purple, and gold decorations for the annual Chamber of Commerce Banquet "Mardi Gras Madness 2001". After outgoing president Scott Lowery reviewed the past year, Judge Harmon Drew shared his "nine big truisms". The jazz band, "The House Next Door", entertained while everyone enjoyed delicious steak and shrimp provided by Claiborne Catering. |

Volunteer Firefighters Get A 'Jump Start' In Saving Lives
So you think that your fire department just puts wet stuff on the red stuff! Not any more! In addition to putting out fires, the fire departments in Claiborne Parish over the last few years have also provided rescue services and, on occasion, a little first aid. But things are changing. The fire chiefs of the Claiborne Parish fire departments recently announced a program that may help some folks who have died actually get to live longer. |

Home On Pearl Street Burns To Ground
The Homer Fire Department responded to several fires over the last week. One fire totally destroyed the home of Beverly Crew and Harry Chatman at 1435 Pearl Street.sometime after midnight Thursday, January 25. The family lost everything. An account has been set up in the name of Beverly Crew at First Guaranty Bank. Anyone wishing to donate clothes to the family can drop them off at Sunrise Bakery, 206 North Main, where Beverly is employed. The couple have four children and one grandchild. Bianca, 10, wears ladies 5-6. Ricky, 12, wears boys husky size 16. Julia, 17, wears size 15-16. Arien, 19, wears 36w-34l pants. The 2-year-old grandbaby wears 4T. Beverly wears 2X-3X and Harry wears 32w-33l pants. According to Homer Fire Chief Dennis Butcher, the cause of the fire is undetermined. |

- Used Sweat Suits Needed
- The Family and Community Education (FCE) Clubs in Claiborne Parish are looking for new or used sweat suits to recycle into teddy bears for their Christmas project. Please drop your sweat suits off at the Thrift Store located on the east side of the Homer Square any Tuesday or Saturday. All donations appreciated.
- Cancer Society To Hold St. Paddy's Day Patty Drop
- The Claiborne Parish American Cancer Society will begin selling their 2nd Annual St. Paddy's Day Patty Drop tickets on Feb. 1 at their Relay for Life meeting. The meeting will be held at Homer Memorial Hospital at 5 PM. The St. Paddy's Day will be held March 17 at the Homer High School practice football field. - New Cabins At Lake Claiborne State Park Are Open

- Shongaloo 8th Annual Crow Hunting Contest Set For February 17
- The Shongaloo 8th Annual Crow Hunting Contest will be held Saturday, February 17 at Phillip Baker's house, 14614 Hwy. 159 in Shongaloo at 4:30 PM sharp. - Smoke Detectors For The Elderly Offered through TRIAD
- TRIAD of Claiborne wants all seniors age 65 and above, to have a smoke detector. You may also qualify if you're disabled. Having a smoke detector can mean the difference of life or death. The JCAHO-accredited system, provided by Alliance Imaging, is a Siemens 1.0 with a fast pack. The moblie MRI produces images as good as an on-site MRI. MRI procedures performed in Homer by Alliance Imaging specialists are read by radiologists from Diagnostic Associates; films become part of the patients permanent record and stay on-site at HMH. Appointments should be made through your physician; the ordering physician does not have to be a local physician. "We are proud to offer this service to our community.
