"Visionaries" To Feature Earthjustice Attorney Nathalie Walker
The Earthjustice Legal Defense Fund Quotes These Timeless Words From Adlai Stevenson's Last Speech: "We travel together, passengers on a little spaceship, dependent upon its vulnerable reserves of air and soil; all committed for our safety to its security and peace; preserved from annihilation only by the care, the work, and, I will say, the love we give our fragile craft."
By Susan T. Herring,
Editor, The Guardian-Journal

Earthjustice Legal Defense Attorney Nathalie Walker joined forces with local residents in 1992 to stop the construction of the first privately owned uranium enrichment plant in the United States. Her work and the work of Earthjustice will be featured in a PBS documentary sometime next year. Although, it has been three years since the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) denied the operating license to Louisiana Energy Services, L.P. (LES), the story continues to get attention, most recently by the independent film crew, "The Visionaries," who were in Homer last month gathering information for the program. |

"I'm Spending Christmas With Jesus.."
The following poem was read at the funeral of Wilton T. Hayes in Junction City on Monday, December 18. Hayes was the father-in-law of staff writer Wayne Pumphrey. We would like to share it with our readers, as a memorial to all who died this past year, and for their loved ones who will spend the holidays without them:

I see the countless Christmas trees Around the world below,
With tiny lights, like Heaven's stars, Reflecting in the snow
The sight is so spectacular, please wipe away that tear
For I am spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.
I hear the many Christmas songs that people hold so dear,
But the sound of music can't compare with the Christmas choir up here.
I have no words to tell you the joy their voices bring,
For it is beyond description to hear the angels sing.
I see the pain inside your heart,
But I am not so far away, we really aren't apart.
So be happy for me, dear ones. you know I hold you dear,
And be glad I'm spending Christmas with Jesus Christ this year.
I send you each a special gift from my heavenly home above.
I send you each a memory of my undying love.
After all "Love" is the gift, more precious than pure gold.
It was always most important in the stories Jesus told.
Please love and keep each other, as my Father said to do,
For I can't count the blessings or love He has for each of you.
So have a Merry Christmas and wipe away that tear.
Remember, I'm spending Christmas sith Jesus Christ this year.
