The Claiborne Parish Police Jury approved the 2001 blacktop overlay program, discussed a parishwide dog ordinance and the upcoming holiday schedule, at their regular meeting December 6 and 7, 2000. Police Juror Roy Mardis asked for a vote to call a public hearing on December 21 to consider a pay raise for police jurors. The first motion failed by a vote of 5 to 4. After restating his motion, it passed by a vote of 6 - 0, with three abstaining. |

Every Classroom In Parish To Be Connected To Internet This Week
| - Board Approves Governor's Program On Abstinence |

Superintendent Gary Jones told school board members at their regular meeting on December 7, "By the end of next week, there should be three computers in every classroom connected to the internet, except for fourth and eighth grade, which will have four." In addition, all schools in the parish will have computer labs, with two labs in every high school. |

- Christmas At Fire Stations Set For Saturday, Dec. 16
- Claiboerne Parish Fire District #6 will sponsor Christmas at the following fire stations on Saturday, December 16: Arizona at 10:30 AM, Lisbon at 11:15 AM, Sharon at 12 noon, Hebron at 12:45 PM, Antioch at 1:30 PM, Wilson at 4:30 PM, New Home at 5:15 PM, Summerfield at 6 PM, Gordon at 7 PM, and Baileytown at 7:45 PM.
- Homer Pelicans To Play In Minden Tournament
- Homer will play in the Minden Basketball Tournament Dec. 13-16. On Thursday, Dec. 21, they will play Loyola here at 6 PM.
- Last Day To Register To Vote December 20, 2000
- The last day to register to vote in the January 20, 2001 election for the School District 11 bond issue is Wednesday, December 20, 2000, according to Registrar of Voters Patricia Sanders.
- Regina McMillian To Speak On IRS Laws And Issues
- IRS representative Regina McMillian will speak Thursday, December 14 at the noon meeting of the Homer Lions Club at Linder Motor Lodge about new tax laws and issues affecting small towns.
- Haynesville Elementary Plans Christmas Program
- The annual all-school Christmas program will be held at Haynesville Elementary on Monday, Dec. 18 at 9:30 AM in the auditorium. Each Pre-K-4 class will present two musical selections, plus the 4th grade recorder band, slide presentation, 2nd grade rhythm band, some teachers, the sign language perfomance of Merry Christmas with Love, and a visit from Santa. - Fact Sheets Available On Seasonal Depression
- Although this is a happy time of year, it is the most common time of year for SAD (Seasonal Affect Disorder). - Homer Memorial Hospital is proud to announce the availability of MRI procedures two days a week in Homer.
The JCAHO-accredited system, provided by Alliance Imaging, is a Siemens 1.0 with a fast pack. The moblie MRI produces images as good as an on-site MRI. MRI procedures performed in Homer by Alliance Imaging specialists are read by radiologists from Diagnostic Associates; films become part of the patients permanent record and stay on-site at HMH. Appointments should be made through your physician; the ordering physician does not have to be a local physician. "We are proud to offer this service to our community. Residents no longer have to drive to Shreveport to receive a state-of-the-art MRI examination." reminds Homer Memorial Radiology department.

- Homer Chamber To Give Away $500 Christmas Cash
- The Homer Chamber of Commerce is once again giving away Christmas Cash!. The $500 prize will be given away December 20 at noon at the Chamber office located in the Ford Museum. Tickets are $1 and can be purchased at the Chamber office or from any board member.
- Homer Cheerleaders Selling Subway Power Cards
- Homer High Cheerleaders are taking orders for Subway Power Cards. Cards are $10 and entitle users to "free" Subway sandwiches and can be used up to 24 times through December 31, 2001. - Clothes, Etc. on the square in Homer is collecting coats for needy children and adults in the Homer area. Anyone wishing to help can donate their old coats by taking them to Clothes, Etc. located at 500 East Main on the east side of the Courthouse Square between 8:30 AM and noon on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
- Haynesville Elementary Kicks Off PepsiNotes Program
- Haynesville Elementary, in conjunction with the Pepsi Cola Company, will begin collecting PepsiNotes November 1 and through February 1, 2001. The Pepsi Cola Company has initiated the "Share the Joy With Music" promotion in which music note symbols will be placed on specially marked packages of Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Mountain Dew, One, Frito-Lay, Funyuns, and Rold Golds, These PepsiNotes can be used by the school to redeem free music supplies. One of the goals of Haynesville Elementary is supply music stands for the school recorder band. Drop-off locations are all classrooms at Haynesville Elementary and many cooperating businesses and civic buildings throughout Claiborne Parish. - Homer Memorial Collecting Food For Home Health
- Homer Memorial Hospital shall conduct a food drive from now until Monday, December 18 at 4 PM. Collection boxes for non-perishable food items are located in the lobby of Homer Memorial Hospital, Claiborne Home Health, and Homer Senior Care. Items collected shall be distributed to Claiborne Home Health patients/families by Home Health employees.

- Smoke Detectors For The Elderly Offered through TRIAD
- TRIAD of Claiborne wants all seniors age 65 and above, to have a smoke detector. You may also qualify if you're disabled. Having a smoke detector can mean the difference of life or death.
