Town Of Homer Celebrates 150 Years
- Suzy Allen of Homer Wins $250 Shopping Spree
By Susan T. Herring,
Editor, The Guardian-Journal
Hundreds of people turned out for the Town of Homer's Sesquicentennial Celebration on Saturday, November 11, 2000, in spite of the cold weather. Those who did were not disappointed. Residents and visitors took a step into the past, some dressed in 1850 attire, and spent the day enjoying the delicious food at the "Taste of Homer" and at the various stores who participated in the Christmas Open House. The entertainment on the square was superb. The day's activities included a beard contest, a mock courtroom trial, kiddie rides, wagon rides, tour of the museum, open houses at two schools and six churches, the burial of the time capsule, an evening birthday bash, and a fireworks display. |

A number of residents attended the Claiborne Parish Police Jury workshop meeting on Wednesday, November 8 to voice complaints about packs of dogs running loose on the Airport Loop, chasing adults and children into their homes. Some residents are having their sleep interrupted all hours of the night by barking, howling dogs, and some have to carry sticks for protection while walking. One resident was even threatened by a dog owner. All were concerned the problem would escalate to a more serious situation if something were not done quickly. |
George W. Bush Wins Claiborne In Historic Presidential Race
By Susan T. Herring,
Editor, The Guardian-Journal
Claiborne Parish election officials said they were glad they didn't live in Florida. While election results are final in most states, the race is "still too close to call" The nation waits to see who the 43rd President of the United States will be, while news of counts and recounts, hanging chads, lawsuits, and spin doctors flood the airwaves. While this election has made it apparent how deeply divided this nation is, late night comedians are having a heyday. |
