Phipps-Tinsley House Closely Parallels Parish's Economic History
Isaiah and Mary Phipps emigrated in 1853 from Alabama to Sections 29 and 30 of range 17 west in Claiborne Parish and built a modest log home about 20 feet west of the existing home. The spot they selected was on top of a hill surrounded by springs and heavily shaded by a grove of at least 23 large oak and Hickory trees. The site was half way between Homer and Old Haynesville. The first road connecting the two towns ran just west of the house near the first well. About 150 yards of the "old road" serves as part of the driveway of the current home. |
