Claiborne Parish Sheriff Kenneth Volentine hopes to soon lower the number of outstanding warrants in the parish. The reason--more jail space. In March of 1999, groundbreaking ceremonies were held for the Claiborne Parish Detention Center. At the time, the Sheriff's office had more than 2,600 outstanding warrants, some dating back to the early 80s. Most of the warrants, according to Volentine, were for less serious offenses since arrests were made on the more serious felony cases first. |
Haynesville Hires Assistant At Sewer Plant, Rents Arkla Building

After reviewing several applications, Mayor Tom Crocker recommended hiring Eddie Sincox to replace the retiring assistant to Sewer Plant Superintendent Alvin Moss. The Haynesville Town Council approved his recommendation at their regular meeting Tuesday, May 16. Sincox will be trained at every level of the water and sewer departments. |
St. Luke Baptist Church To Celebrate 146th Anniversary May 28

The St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church was founded 1854 and is the oldest church of the Liberty Hill Baptist Association, which was charted in 1911 at the St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church. |

- Corney Lake Moss Problems To Be Discussed
- The U.S. Forest Service and concerned citizens will meet June 6 at Summerfield High School at 6:30 PM to discuss vegetation and other problem on Corney Lake. - Citizens in Claiborne Parish who have not returned their census forms and who have not been contacted by a census worker, need to contact the mayor's office in Haynesville at 624-0911 or the mayor's office in Homer at 927-1312.
- Country, Bluegrass, Gospel Every Friday In Homer
- Every Friday night in downtown Homer, amateur musicians from all over the Ark-La-Tex meet at the Homer Fire Station to enjoy a little country, bluegrass, gospel, and fellowship. - Claiborne Parish Communications District (E-911) will have a board meeting on Tuesday, May 30 at 5:45 PM at the administrator's office at 524 East Main in Homer. The agenda will include opening and reviewing ambulance service proposals and discussion of upcoming June budget meeting.
- Confederate Riding Club To Hold Annual Trail Ride
- The Confederate Riding Club will hold its annual trail ride and BBQ on Saturday May 27 at Corney Lake beginning at 8:00 AM from the recreation area. Lunch will be served immediately following the ride which will last about five hours. - Developed and maintained by The Claiborne Parish School Board, the Claiborne Parish School District Web Site will provide information on our School District, Central Office Staff, Parish Schools, Parent/Teacher Resources, a parish-wide Educator Email Directory, Area Technology Developements, and an Employment Opportunity Listing with an online application for employment in the Claiborne Parish School System.

- The complete Community Service Directory originally produced by The Family First Coalition will be presented online. - Moms v.s. Moms Softball

Haynesville Recreational Association will be hosting a Moms v.s. Moms Softball Game, Saturday, May 27, 2000. Admission is $1 for 6 years of age and older. Hamburger plates will be available for lunch. Chances to win a Gas Grill and an 18 Speed Bicycle, to be awarded at the end of the ball season, will be offered at $1 each. - "Taste Of Homer" Needs Participants And Recipes By June 30
- Homer's Sesquicentennial Committee is compiling a cookbook containing recipes prepared for this year's "Taste Of Homer" planned for Saturday, November 11 in Homer City Hall. Parish historian Beverly Smith will provide highlights of Homer's 150-year-old history and some of the area's historical landmarks for the cookbook. Restaurants, businesses, churches, and individuals are encouraged to sign up to prepare their favorite recipes. Deadline to sign up and submit recipes is June 30. - Outdoor Discovery Camp At Lake Claiborne State Park
- On Wednesday, June 10 from 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM children in grades five and
up are invited to participate in a special outdoor day camp. Activities will include a fishing clinic, trail hike, camping and outdoor survival tips, insect and aquatic life collection, swimming and more. - Driver's Ed Classes At Homer High Begin June 12
- Register now at the Claiborne Parish School Board for the 2000 Driver's Education Class at Homer High. Class instruction will be Mon., June 12 - Fri., June 16, beginning at 8 AM. Class size is limited. Registration fee is $150 payable by money order or cashier's check. Must be 15 years old by June 28, 2000 to register.
- Jim Hatch To Speak On Indian Cultures At State Park

Jim Hatch will educate visitors on how Lake Claiborne was utilized by American Indian cultures when he speaks on "Native Americans: The First Park Campers" at the Lake Claiborne State park on Saturday, June 24 from 7-8 PM. - Grief Support Group Meets 1st And 3rd Mondays

- Smoke Detectors For The Elderly Offered through TRIAD
- TRIAD of Claiborne wants all seniors age 65 and above, to have a smoke detector. You may also qualify if you're disabled. Having a smoke detector can mean the difference of life or death.
