No matter where you go on the 643 acres at Lake Claiborne State Park, you can see evidence of the work District Manager Charlie McKenzie has put into the improvements at the park. McKenzie, who has been with the park system for 27 years, served as Park Manager before being promoted about five years ago. Lonnie Dean is now Park Manager and is one of twelve full-time employees who oversee the upkeep of the park.

Council Hears Reports From The Homer Historic Advisory Commission And The Homer Sesquicentennial
Planning Committee.
Public Works Director Gene Clark informed Mayor David Aubrey and members of the Homer Town Council
that during the storm Sunday, April 23, the Mayfield water well was hit by lightning, damaging the motor, pump,
some pipe and an electric cable. Presently, the Caver and Dutchtown water wells are supplying water for the town. |

Weekend Accident Claims One
A late Saturday morning accident claimed the life of a 40-year-old Homer man, Jeffery Ware, on Highway 79
when the vehicle in which he was a passenger collided with a truck pulling a trailer. |

- Robin Bridges To Speak On Sparta Aquifer On May 18
- The Central Claiborne Water System will hold its annual meeting at 6 PM on Thursday, May 18 at the
Claiborne Parish Police Jury office. Robin Bridges, Webster Parish County Agent, will speak on the Sparta
Aquifer. All members are encouraged to be present.
- Town Council, Police Jury And School Board To Meet
- The Haynesville Town Council will meet Tuesday, May 9 at 6 PM.
The Claiborne Parish Police Jury will meet at 10 AM Wednesday, May 10, and 10 AM Thursday, May 11.
The Claiborne Parish School Board meeting has been changed to 7:15 PM Thursday, May 11 at the Haynesville
High School auditorium.
- Country, Bluegrass, Gospel Every Friday In Homer
- Every Friday night in downtown Homer, amateur musicians from all over the Ark-La-Tex meet at the Homer
Fire Station to enjoy a little country, bluegrass, gospel, and fellowship. Anyone is welcome to join in, or just sit

- Fund Set Up For "Rebel" At First Woodlands Bank
- A fund has been set up at First Woodlands Bank in the name of "Rebel" to defray legal and other costs.
- Registration Set For Pineview's Pre-School Program
- Registration for the 2000-2001 Preschool Program session has been set for the week of May 7-10 during normal
school hours. Please bring the following items with you when you register your child, 1) birth certificate with state
seal, 2) updated health card, and 3) Social Security card. A child must be four years of age on or before September
2000 to enroll.
- Kindergarten Registration May 8 - 12 At Homer Elementary
- Kindergarten registration at Homer Elementary School will be May 8 - 12 from 9:00 to 11:30 AM. A child must
be five years old by September 30, 2000. Parents must also bring the child's birth certificate, Social Security card,
and an up-to-date health card which indicates the child has received all requirements including Hepatitis B
vaccine.
- Homer Elementary To Hold Scholastic Book Fair In May
- Homer Elementary School will host a Scholastic Book Fair May 3, 4, 5, and 8 from 9 AM to 1 PM each day.
Admission is free. This reading event will offer students, parents, and teachers an opportunity to see latest works
by popular authors and illustrators of books for young readers. For more information, contact the school office at

- Claiborne Charity To Host Annual Golf Tournament May 5-7
- Claiborne Charity, Inc. will host the 2nd annual Claiborne Charity Golf Tournament May 5-7.
This year's event will include a dinner and dance at the Fair Building in Haynesville Sat. May 6 at 6 PM with hors d'oeuvres and silent auction. Dinner at 7 PM by Upper Crust Catering followed by live auction and calcutta. The Boomers will provide music for dance at 9 PM. - Fishing Derby Planned At Lake Claiborne State Park
- Beginners can learn the basic skills of fishing and fish identification from the park naturalist on Saturday, May

- Register now at the Claiborne Parish School Board for the 2000 Driver's Education Class at Homer High. Class
instruction will be Mon., June 12 - Fri., June 16, beginning at 8 AM. Class size is limited. Registration fee is $150
payable by money order or cashier's check. Must be 15 years old by June 28, 2000 to register.
- Newspapers Still Being Collected At Homer City Hall
- Please continue to recycle your newspapers by dropping them off at Homer City Hall (old fire station).
- Grief Support Group Meets 1st And 3rd Mondays
- The Grief Support Group meets every 1st and 3rd Monday at 6 PM at the Homer Memorial Hospital Conference

- TRIAD of Claiborne wants all seniors age 65 and above, to have a smoke detector. You may also qualify if
