The Claiborne Parish Police Jury Was Updated On The I-69 Project By Kennedy Morelock, Retiring Administrative Director Of The Claiborne Economic Development Board. Morelock Assured Jurors The Proposed Interstate Would Cross Claiborne Parish. |
At the regular meeting on April 6, Claiborne Parish Police Jurors said they want littering and trash dumping in the parish to stop. They approved amending the existing ordinance, set a $500 reward for information on anyone they see littering or dumping trash, and to work toward the enforcement of the ordinance. |

Dreams of an Interstate highway crossing Claiborne Parish diagonally between Homer and Haynesville are drawing closer to reality, according to information from John D. Caruthers, Jr. In an interview he said, "The only thing that could cause Claiborne to lose its portion of I-69 is us." He was summing up the need for the people of Louisiana, and Claiborne Parish in particular, to continue working for funding for each step along the way to reality. |

Shooting Death Being Investigated
The Claiborne Parish Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the March 29 shooting at a residence on Boliew Road in Claiborne Parish, which resulted in the death of an Arkansas man. |

- Claiborne Charity To Host Annual Golf Tournament May 5-7
- Claiborne Charity, Inc. will host the 2nd annual Claiborne Charity Golf Tournament May 5-7.
This year's event will include a dinner and dance at the Fair Building in Haynesville Sat. May 6 at 6 PM with hors d'oeuvres and silent auction. Dinner at 7 PM by Upper Crust Catering followed by live auction and calcutta. The Boomers will provide music for dance at 9 PM. Tickets are $40 and available at First Woodlands Bank, First National Bank in Arcadia, Haynesville City Hall, Killgore's Pharmacy in Haynesville, Merle Norman Emporium in Homer, Buffalo's in Magnolia and Porterville Store in Cullen. - Homer Elementary Preschool Registration Set For May 1, 2

Homer Elementary Preschool Registration will be held Monday and Tuesday, May 1 and 2 from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM. A child must be four years old before September 30, 2000. Parents must bring child's birth certificate, Social Security card, and white health card. Both prechools--Starting Points Preschool Program and Title I Preschool Program--are limited to 20 students and require registration and testing. Starting Points requires parents provide proof of employment or enrollment in an institution of learning at least 20 hours a week and they must meet a monthly income scale. There is no requirement for Title I.

Kindergarten registration at Homer Elementary School will be May 8 - 12 from 9:00 to 11:30 AM. A child must be five years old by September 30, 2000. Parents must also bring the child's birth certificate, Social Security card, and an up-to-date health card which indicates the child has received all requirements including Hepatitis B vaccine.
