Mayor, Council Urge Residents To Send In Census Forms

Mayor David Aubrey Exercised His Option To Place Himself As A Voting Member On The Board Of Directors Of Homer Memorial Hospital, Replacing His Previous Appointee Mike McKean.

Prior to the regular meeting of the Homer Town Council on April 3, Mayor David Aubrey signed a Proclamation urging every citizen in the Town of Homer to complete and mail their Census 2000 forms. The Proclamation stated, due to a population undercount in 1990, the Town of Homer lost more than one million dollars or approximately $3500 for each adult and $7500 for each child not counted. |
Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church Was Founded In 1866
Reverend David Heard, Sr. Presently Serves As Pastor And Has Been a Member Of This Great, Historical Church For 48 Years. For That, He Gives God The Glory. He Thanks God For Being In The Fine Town Of Homer And Prays Homer Will Be A Better Place To Live As The Many Churches Carry Out God's Mandate.

It was November 1866, just after the Civil War ended, when a group of former slaves met under a "brush arbor" on what is now the Gladney Place and organized the Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. The name "Ebenezer" was based on scripture found in I Samuel 7:12, "Then Samuel took a stone and set it between Mizpah and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying 'Hitherto hath the Lord helped us.'" |
Dr. "Mike" Dixon Retires As County Agent For Extension Service

Dr. James "Mike" Dixon retired March 31, 2000 after thirty-four years with the LSU AgCenter--the last ten as County Agent. And just in time to get ready for his new role--"grandpa." Dixon's daughter D'Ann and husband Keith Shannon are expecting their first child in May. |

- Senior Citizens Urged To Sign Up For Computer Class

Senior citizens are urged to enroll in computer class, "Computers for Beginners" which is open to everyone age 16 and over through BPCC's Community Education Division. Janet Holland will instruct classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, April 18-May 4 (6 sessions) from 6-9 PM at the Homer High computer lab. At 9 PM Friday, April 7 a special candle lighting ceremony will be held to remember persons who have been affected by cancer during the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life at the Homer High School Track (behind football stadium) from 6 PM - 6 AM. - Claiborne Charity, Inc. will host the 2nd annual Claiborne Charity Golf Tournament May 5-7.
This year's event will include a dinner and dance at the Fair Building in Haynesville Sat. May 6 at 6 PM with hors d'oeuvres and silent auction. Dinner at 7 PM by Upper Crust Catering followed by live auction and calcutta. The Boomers will provide music for dance at 9 PM. TRIAD of Claiborne wants all seniors age 65 and above, to have a smoke detector. You may also qualify if you're disabled. Having a smoke detector can mean the difference of life or death.
