The Bombing Of Pearl Harbor Shocked The Nation

As This Nation, This State, And This Parish Approach The End Of A Millennium And The End Of A Century, Certain Dates Will Be Forever Recorded In The History Books And Etched In Our Memories. December 7, 1941 Is One Of Those Dates. One of the most devastating events of the Twentieth Century in America and in Claiborne Parish was the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The effects are far reaching, even today.

Skeletal Remains Found In Haynesville Identified As Those Of Shannon Capers

After almost seven months, the skeletal remains found May 10, 1999 in a wooded area behind the Mill Street Apartments in Haynesville have been identified.

Lubertha Powell Seriously Injured In Traffic Accident, Saturday, Nov. 27

Lubertha Powell, wife of Police Juror Murray Powell, was seriously injured at approximately 5:30 PM Saturday, November 27, when her vehicle was hit from behind by a 1986 Chevy S-10 Blazer driven by a juvenile.

  • Claiborne Parish Police Jury, School Board, Homer Town Council To Meet - The Homer Town Council will meet Monday, December 6 at 6 PM in Council Chambers.
        The Claiborne Parish Police Jury will meet on Wednesday, December 7 and Thursday, December 9 at 10 AM in the Police Jury Board Room.
        The Claiborne Parish School Board will meet in the CPSB Board Room on Thursday, December 9 at 7 PM, following the Finance Committee meeting at 6 PM.
     
  • Christmas Musical, Dinner First Baptist In Haynesville - The First Baptist Church of Haynesville will be present a Christmas musical comedy "Twas the Last Mailing Day Before Christmas" on Saturday, December 18 at Haynesville Fair Barn. Reservations required for dinner at 6 PM. Play at 6:45 PM. Suggested donation of $5. Call the church at 624-0214 to make reservations for the dinner.
     
  • 4-H Plans Alumni Reunion In Baton Rouge In Year 2000 - The Louisiana 4-H Foundation has planned a 4-H Alumni Reunion to be held in Baton Rouge during National 4-H Week in the year 2000.   • Parish Board Of Elections Supervisors To Meet December 3 - The Claiborne Parish Board of Elections Supervisors will meet Friday, December 3 at 10 AM at the Registrar of Voters office in the Courthouse to draw for the Commissioners in Charge for the year 2000.
     
  • Congressman Jim McCrery Staff Will Be In Parish December 22 - Staff members of Congressman Jim McCrery are scheduled to provide outreach services for local constituents on Wednesday, December 22. Representatives will be at the Homer City Council Chambers at 420 East Main at 9:30 AM and at Haynesville City Hall at 1:30 PM. They will assist constituents with federal issues and casework such as Social Security or veterans benefits and federal grant applications.   • Testing Tuesdays At City Hall For Census Workers - The U.S. Bureau of Census will be testing for census workers every Tuesday through December 28 at Homer City Hall at 9 AM and 1 PM. For more information, call Ron Zeigler at (318) 683-1170.
     
  • Charles Strong To Speak At Lions Club On December 9 - Charles Strong, Director of the Northwest Louisiana Technical College in Webster and Claiborne Parish will be the guest speaker at the Homer Lions Club meeting on Thursday, December 9 at noon at the Linder Motor Lodge. All Lions are encouraged to attend.
     
  • Minden Medical Center To Hold Open House For Bloodless Medicine & Surgery Program - The Minden Medical Center will hold an "Open House" on Saturday, December 4, 1999 from 2 PM to 4 PM for the new Bloodless Medicine and Surgery Program.
     
  • Homer High Basketball Tournament Dec. 1-4 - Homer High School will host a Basketball Tournament in the Homer High gym Wednesday, December 1 through Saturday, December 4.
        Tuesday, December 7 - Pels will play Pineview in Lisbon. Game time is 6 PM.
        December 9-11 - Athens Tournament.
     
  • D.A.R.T. Will Be In Homer Thursdays 9-12 AM - "Peace On Earth" begins at home. The Domestic Abuse Resistance Team (D.A.R.T.) of Lincoln can help. We are committed to ending domestic violence by providing services such as shelter, legal assistance and counseling. A representative of D.A.R.T. will be in Homer every Thursday from 9 AM to 12 PM.   • Christmas Festival, Parade Set For Saturday, December 11 - The Town of Homer will hold its annual Christmas Festival and Parade on Saturday, December 11 beginning at 10 AM. Plenty of food and entertainment all day.

  • Rangers Seeking Comments On Planned Burns1 - The Caney Ranger District of the Kisatchie National Forest is proposing to prescribe burn approximately 10,633 acres of National Forest land in Webster and Claiborne Parish between December 1999 and April 2000.   • NOTICE TO HUNTERS: Workers On Mid-Valley Pipeline - Mid-Valley Pipeline will be doing work on the Mid-Valley Pipeline right-of-way beginning Monday, December 6 through Friday, December 17. This work will take place on the pipeline right-of-way in the following counties and parishes: Gregg, Harrison, Caddo, Bossier, Webster, Claiborne, Union, Morehouse, West Carroll and East Carroll. Workers will be using ATV's and company trucks to accomplish this work along the right-of-way and will be wearing hunter orange.
