Tuggle Wants To Tear Buildings Down On Square For Temporary Parking

Jurors voted to notify all governmental agencies that no requests for road work in the year 2000 will be accepted after March 1, 2000, with the possibility that date may be even earlier in the year 2001.

Buck Tuggle stated during the Wednesday morning work session that Senator Foster Campbell and Representative Pinkie Wilkerson have agreed to help with plans to provide more adequate parish buildings. He suggested possible building a multiple story building on the southeast corner of the Courthouse square which could possible be connected

Board Votes To Renew Tax Millage For Lisbon District

The Number Of Students Enrolled In Claiborne Parish Public Schools On October 1, 1999 Was 2,815, Down From 2,881 Last Year, Reflecting A Loss Of 66 Students. According To Accountant Bill Moody, The State Will Take Back $231,660 Over A Four Month Period Between January And May, 2000. Twenty-Eight Students Released To Neighboring Parishes Cost CPSB $98,000.

Wilbert Williams, Roosevelt O'Guin, and O.D. Willis addressed the Finance Committee of the Claiborne Parish School Board on Thursday, November 11. Williams told Board members he believed they should be given the same $2000 raise recently approved by the Board for Pat Hightower.

Homer Ministerial Alliance Meets
Community Thanksgiving Service At First Methodist Sunday November 21

The Community Thanksgiving Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Sunday, November 21 at 6 PM. The offering taken up will go to the "Community Transient Fund" which is distributed by the First Baptist Church.

  • Deadline For November 25 Paper Is Monday, Nov. 22 - The deadline for the November 25 issue of The Guardian-Journal will be Monday, November 22 at noon. Pictures must be in by 5 PM on Friday, November 19.
     
  • Town Of Homer Issues Advisory To Residents - Road crews from the DOTD and Benton & Brown began preparations for two road projects in the Town of Homer on Monday, November 15. The DOTD will be overlaying North Main. Thirteen streets in Homer will be overlaid as part of the Town's Street Grant Program. The DOTD will also be monitoring and completing recent work on West Main. Residents are urged to be careful, leave home early and watch for detours for the next several weeks
     
  • Homer High Basketball Games This Week - Friday, November 19 - Pels will play Farmerville here. Monday, November 22 - Pels will play Cotton Valley here, Game time 6 PM.
     
  • The Haynesville Tornado To Host St. John-Plaquemine - After defeating Montgomery last week 48-6, the Haynesville Tornado (10-1) will play host to St. John-Plaquemine (10-1) in the second round of the playoffs Friday November 19. Kickoff is at 7 PM.
     
  • Wade Correctional Arts And Crafts Festival Dec. 4, 5 - On Saturday, December 4 and Sunday, December 5, David Wade Correctional Center located off 520 (Colquitt Road) will present its Semi-Annual Arts and Crafts Festival.
        All types of some of the finest hand-crafted items will be on display: wood & leather crafts, artwork and much more.   • Homer Lions Club Selling Pecans For Charity - The Homer Lions Club is having its annual pecan sales which will benefit several charities, including Louisiana Eye Foundation, Louisiana Eye Bank and Handicapped Children.

  • Haynesville To Light "Tree Of Unity" Saturday, Nov. 20 - Haynesville citizens will be lighting the "Tree of Unity" Saturday, Nov. 20 at 7:30 PM on the vacant lot where the Haynesville News used to be.   • Claiborne Academy Students Eligible For TOPS - On October 28, 1999, Claiborne Academy received official notification from the BESE Board that it is now in compliance with the Brumfield V. Dodd requirements, making them eligible for public assistance through the Tuition Opportunity Program for Students (TOPS).
        In addition, CA would be eligible to receive state or federal funds through various programs administered by the Louisiana Department of Education. This is an important milestone and a happy occasion for the students, teachers, and patrons of Claiborne Academy.

  • Rangers Seeking Comments On Planned Burns - The Caney Ranger District of the Kisatchie National Forest is proposing to prescribe burn approximately 10,633 acres of National Forest land in Webster and Claiborne Parish between December 1999 and April 2000.
