Claiborne War Veterans To Be Honored Today

Today, November 11, 1999 marks the ninety-first anniversary of the end of World War I. In 1919, President
Woodrow Wilson proclaimed "Armistice Day" to remind Americans of the tragedies of the first world war which
ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.
The "Claiborne One" web site is nearing completion with the main portions expected to be completed within two to three weeks. The official web site of Homer, Haynesville, and all of Claiborne Parish is at http://www.claiborneone.org.

- Absentee Voting Ends 4:30 PM Saturday, November 13 - Absentee voting for the November 20 election will end Saturday, November 13 at 4:30 PM. The Registrar's
office is closed today, November 11, in observance of Veterans Day, but will re-open tomorrow at 8:30 AM.
- Homer Pelicans, Haynesville Tornados Make Playoffs - The Homer Pelicans will travel to Many Friday night in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs. Kickoff at 7
PM.
The Haynesville Tornados will play host to Montgomery in the first round of Class 1A playoffs. Kickoff at 7
PM.
- Wade Correctional Arts And Crafts Festival Dec. 4, 5 - On Saturday, December 4 and Sunday, December 5, David Wade Correctional Center located off 520 (Colquitt Road) will present its Semi-Annual Arts and Crafts Festival.
All types of some of the finest hand-crafted items will be on display: wood & leather crafts, artwork and much more. The public is invited to come and shop for your Christmas gifts and enjoy free refreshments and live entertainment while you browse. For more information, call 927-9631.

Homer Lions Club Selling Pecans For Charity - The Homer Lions Club is having its annual pecan sales which will benefit several charities, including
Louisiana Eye Foundation, Louisiana Eye Bank and Handicapped Children.

- Claiborne Academy Students Eligible For TOPS -
On October 28, 1999, Claiborne Academy received official notification from the BESE Board that it is now in compliance with the Brumfield V. Dodd requirements, making them eligible for public assistance through the Tuition Opportunity Program for Students (TOPS).
In addition, CA would be eligible to receive state or federal funds through various programs administered by the Louisiana Department of Education. This is an important milestone and a happy occasion for the students,
teachers, and patrons of Claiborne Academy.
- Attention: Homer Band Parents Needed November 11 - All parents of band students, grades 6-12, at Homer High and Homer Junior High are needed at the next Homer Band Booster meeting on Thursday, November 11 at 6:30 PM in the band room at the Homer High Student Center. Deadline for Advertisements and News Copy is Tuesday at 12 Noon. Weddings and Engagements must be turned in for publication on the Friday prior to the desired publication date.
